Hi ,

Imagine your film is released and Forbes is interviewing you about how you pulled it all together. What will your quote be when being interviewed after you'd made your film?

If you think your quote is going to look something like these, think again:

I Googled "database of film investors" (there are so many high quality ones from which to choose) and sent some emails with spelling errors to strangers with my idea for a potential script. They thought my ideas were so good they just handed me $1M.
It was so easy to find financing. I went on a Facebook group (like this one: Movie Investors Worldwide), which always has film investors just lurking around with their checkbooks ready. I posted "I'm working on a portfolio of Film/TV projects with A-List cast & crew. Serious inquiries from investors now being accepted," and the checks just came flooding in from serious investors. I had so much money leftover I donated some to the local animal shelter.

Hopefully, you see just how ridiculous those statements sound and those are stories you are never going to read! None of these methods will ever raise a dime in financing.

What you will read, however, are things like:

"It’s Been a Very, Very Long Road" - Ralph Fiennes
“It was very, very hard to get financing for Precious.... Everybody kept saying no. My whole life was no. It was just a bunch of nos.” - Lee Daniels

You can alleviate the struggle by approaching financing the right way. And you can make sure the deck is stacked in your favor to reach out the right people with every word and document carefully scripted to maximize your chances of success. But no filmmaker has ever said it was easy to raise film financing from outside sources.

If you're actually serious about making your film, learn from some of the best. Start reading about what others did to finance their films. Who better to learn from than Steven Spielberg, Lee Daniels, Kevin Smith, Richard Linklater, Charlize Theron and more?
