Hi ,Â
Â
When we analyze comps and movies in our
business plan template, we most often rely on Box Office numbers. This is because streamers generally hold their acquisition numbers closely guarded, whereas box office sales have always been made public throughout the industry.Â
Â
So if you're marketing your film, and trying to convince investors they will get a Return on their Investment, what do you tell them with regards to streaming acquisitions?Â
Â
Simple, follow the news. There is not currently - and likely won't be for a very long time, if ever - a list of streaming deals. The best we can do right now is discuss the publicized deals. We also then show box office numbers for other films, and that gives us a full picture of the information currently available.Â
Â
Here's an excerpt of the types of things we say in ourÂ
business plan template (numbers and streamers are crossed out in this email, but they are in our business plan).Â

Â
Streaming providers generally guard their acquisition prices tightly, however, here are some recently publicized notable deals:
- Malcolm & Marie @ $00M to Streamer – a romantic drama starring John David Washington and Zendaya.
- Bruised @ $00M to Streamer - Halle Berry’s directorial debut stars her portraying a comeback MMA fighter.
- CODA @ $00M to Streamer - a coming-of-age drama about high school senior Ruby, the only person in her deaf family capable of
hearing
Â
In no way are we saying our $2M budget film might recoup the same dollar amounts in distribution deals, however, we do believe the above acquisitions demonstrate our story, theme and genre are highly coveted in the industry and are currently commanding top dollar deals.

It's pretty simple. You just start gathering the info you can find, and add more over time. A Business Plan is a living/breathing document until your movie is fully funded. So just stay on top of the news and it won't be long before you have 10-20 streaming deals under your belt.Â
