Hi ,Â
Â
Full Disclosure: we do not have the answer to this question. We do, however, read many articles and white papers on how certain tax policies affect the movie industry and all the players: productions (both large and small), entertainers and investors.Â
Â
The short is answer is whether certain tax policies will benefit  or harm you all depend on where you are in the spectrum and what your goals are. It's all incredibly complicated. A tax policy that makes it better for investors to claim their tax deductions might also lower your personal ability to claim your work/entertainment deductions.Â
Â
There is no one clear answer on which tax policies benefit the entire movie industry. Here are some articles we found quite informative (at least the parts we understand):Â
- Section 181 and Film Financing - excerpt, "This new bonus depreciation is no longer capped at $15 million or $20 million and no express election by the taxpayer is required to receive this favorable tax treatment, as under the prior Section 181 provisions. While these changes would appear to be good news for independent film production
companies and their investors, these changes cannot be applied without reference to other limitations imposed on Section 181 qualified property by the Act."Â
- Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: A comparison for businesses - excerpt "The law now allows expensing for certain film, television, and live theatrical productions, and used qualified property with certain restrictions."
- Trump’s tax cuts help his loudest critics in Hollywood (and hurt lower-income showbiz pros) - excerpt "The tax overhaul doles out windfalls to the producers and film financiers who control the entertainment industry. It slashes tax rates, especially on overseas profits that are the lifeblood of Hollywood, and changes accounting rules in a
way that could attract more investment dollars to show business."
We'd love to hear what your insight on how the tax changes in 2017 might have hurt or helped you or any other insights you have on politics and the film industry?Â

"Financial Film Package Invaluable and Well Worth the Money!!"
Â
I've made short films before, but this is my first feature, and the first film I've tried raising money for. This template, actually the whole package, has been invaluable and well worth the money I spent on it. So much information is packed into what I got that I'm almost dizzy from it all.
