In their article, 21 Of The Best Indie Movies Of All Time, Esquire Magazine describes indie films as "sacred and fertile ground for creativity, free from the pressures of big budgets and studio meddling."

 

We found that incredibly inspirational and it brought us images of standing in the end zone, knowing you have 100 yards to go and need a series of downs, plays, and top quality teammates to get you there. As it turns out, football is a great metaphor for indie film financing. You are going to get tackled and there's going to be some major defense trying to block you, but if you get up enough times and have the best teammates on your side, then as a producer, you can quarterback your way to a touchdown. 

 

OK, enough with the metaphor. Maybe we are just missing sports a bit too much. 

 

Esquire goes on to say, "Today, 'indie' is less a genre and more an attitude – an anti-corporate, fiercely independent approach to filmmaking that tells the stories that big studios won't, often in ways they'd never consider..."

So check out Esquire's list, find some inspiration, support an indie film you haven't seen before. And remember, every one of these movies found financing...so it's never impossible. It's just reserved for those who invest in themselves and do the work!
