The film financing world - basically all pre-production - has been on FIRE since the lockdown (more on that later). Of course, we'd all rather go back to a pre COVID-19Â world, but we can't, so we're making the best of it.Â
Â
Film Private Placement Memorandum (PPM)
Our filmmakers have been asking us for years to release a Film PPM and we finally have! This is a massive legal document that cost over $14,000 in attorney's fees to create. We soft-launched this new PPM template last week and do you know who our FIRST customers were? ATTORNEYS! That's right, lawyers are buying this legal document because they know it's a steal!
Â
Do You Need a Film PPM?
If you want to follow SEC rules for offering investments in your film publicly, use non-accredited investors and are raising funding over $100K, then you want to look into using a PPM.
Â
A Film PPM is suggested (it's actually required, but we are not lawyers, so we can't say that) for filmmakers who meet the following criteria:
- You want to raise film financing of $100K-$5M from outside investors who will not actively participate in your film production (Passive Investors)
- You want to protect your project, your production company and your investors and follow all legal requirements
- You want the option to raise funds from both Accredited and Non-Accredited investors
- You want to be able to publicly advertise your offering in order to receive investor funding
If you want to save about $10K getting a PPM made from scratch and use one already proven in the film industry, then our new PPM Legal Template is for you.Â
Â
Our new PPM was used by successful independent producers several times to raise money for full-length feature films at budgets ranging from $350K - $8M. The document we offer IS the PPM being used right now in 2020 for Capture The Flag, with actor attachments Dick Van Dyke, Louis Gossett Jr and Barry Corbin. Previously, this Film PPM was used to raise funds for:
- Raising Buchanan with Rene Auberjonois, M. Emmitt Walsh and Amanda Melby (released in 2020)
- Locker 13Â with Ricky Schroder, Rick Hoffman and Jon Gries (2014)
- Three Days to Vegas with Peter Falk, George Segal and Rip Torn (2007)
Now, we HIGHLY recommend you still work with a trusted entertainment attorney, but this takes you from paying for an entirely new agreement ($10-$20K usually) to a few hours of updates and a review. You can read our article at Film PPM, where we outline it all for you. The PPM is included in our New Gold Financing Package or you can purchase it separately here.Â
Â
Our New Film PPM Pack includes:
- Feature PPM Template (Word) – a template for you to use with editable fields where you insert your own film production information. The template includes the complete Film PPM and Articles of Incorporation (your film company’s operating agreement)
- Feature Sample PPM (PDF) – a sample final PPM prepared by attorneys and used by producers (exactly like the Template above, but a final version to follow as an example)
- Subscription Agreement Template (Word) – the document used to accept money from your investors. This is signed when they write you a check

Why is the Financing World on Fire? Â
- Everyone in the filmmaking world is stuck at home. The only thing they can do is pre and post production. Normally, everyone is so busy on location or set, paperwork and admin stuff takes a back seat. Everyone is opening and replying to emails, contacts and offers - they have no excuse not to!Â
- People are desperate for good content, which makes content one of the best investments anyone can make right now! Everyone on the planet has been consuming media content at up to 50% higher rates than just a few months ago and this will continue for a long time, even when we are back to the "new" normal, whatever that looks like.  Films are being released digitally a year early (hello, Hamilton) and the pipelines are empty. There is a RUSH to get new content into the
pipeline. Audiences, studios and investors can't get enough content fast enough.Â

Stay Safe and Healthy!!!!!
"These documents do get results. The financing package offers information and training I didn't even get in a top film school (NYU). I only wish I had known about FilmProposals earlier!"
